A nightmare on elm street-
Jennifers body- Needy is sat with her small round glasses on eating chocolate. This connotes that she is a geek. We are then shown a girl with the complete opposite look as she is an example of the male gaze more than the previous girl and is looking in the mirror so we get to see a 360 view of her. This girl is the dominant signifier of the shot as the rest is just a bedroom. Needy has bobble heads and a computer on her desk whereas Jennifer has candles and a huge mirror. This is an example of how we are guided towards thinking Jennifer is more cool and sophisticated and likes admiring herself but needy is a geek who doesn’t really care about her image as she is sat at a desk eating chocolate.
Needy’s dress code is less revealing than Jennifer’s as she is wearing a knitted jumper but Jennifer is wearing tight velour pants. From a gaze point of view needy isn’t an example but Jennifer is a great example as she has a nice figure, nice hair and looks like she’s made an effort . On the other hand is needy as she is wearing a boring jumper with her hair tied back.
Throughout the whole clip Jennifer is looking at herself in the mirror while needy is looking at her computer screen. The semic code is at work here as we know needy is the stereotypical geek that wants to be friends with Jennifer as she is the opposite of needy as she is the stereotypical representation of the popular high school girl and we know she is vainer than needy as she is constantly stroking herself and looking in the mirror.
CLIP.2- Needy and Jennifer are on a bed and the semic code is present again as we see that Jennifer is more comfortable and relaxed while Needy is sat on the bed with an awkward look on her face, connoting that she is nervous or scared while Jennifer is confident and dominant in this situation.
Dress codes- Jennifer is yet again in revealing clothing but only her bottom half as she has high cut shorts and socks with a T-shirt on. Needy is dressed in a vest and baggy pants. From both their dress codes and their Gestures it is obvious Jennifer is the more dominant one and needy is the weak and feeble one.
Jennifer goes on to cut her arm while needy watches. Needy looks shocked and concerned but Jennifer just looks as t heals up, Showing that Jennifer is a supernatural being. This could be why she is so confident as she may not have the fears of society on her back as she doesn’t care as she is a monster like being.

One of the first times she has looked like a woman as she is performing in her gender role although she is covered in dirt.
